I think one of the many reasons I love Adventure Time is that it’s brought back the “I Identify With This Princess” dynamic that Disney had created in the 90s. My own nostalgia aside, Adventure Time supplies great, unique characters for little girls to enjoy and cling to, only this time around it’s WAY better because
- there are a lot more to choose from since you basically get a new one every week
- not all of them are passed off as Princesses - some are Queens, Doctors, or just common people
- almost none of them are romantically attached, or even inclined
- they are allowed to be inherently silly in ways other than just “tomboy” and “perky”
- their personalities and designs are far more varied
- many of them are actually designed by women
- there aren’t as many racial issues since most of them are based off of inanimate objects, and those that are humanoid don’t have realistically colored skin
- they aren’t in a show that’s being advertised to a single demographic
basically i just love them all okay
