In chat, @aamalie and @lovescafell mentioned briefly how much they’d love a new Sailor Moon anime—Sailor Moon: Sisterhood!—like how they adapted Fullmetal Alchemist a second time, to more accurately follow the manga. Now it’s all I can think about! Just, gosh, wouldn’t it be wonderful? Higher production values! Maybe an adaptation of Sailor V? Mamoru wouldn’t be shortchanged or made into a paternalistic creeper! The Asteroid senshi would exist! And, oh, the thing I’ve always found saddest about the original translation from manga to anime is how much they downplayed the queer material in the manga, from reducing Haruka and Michiru’s canonical romance in the manga to coy suggestion in the anime, to removing things like Haruka straight up kissing Usagi on the mouth, to cutting the explicit and deliberate subtextual comparisons of Chibi-usa and Hotaru’s relationship to Usagi and Mamoru’s, so it would be awesome to have an anime adaptation of Sailor Moon in which Haruka and Michiru do in fact get their freak on in a bed (as they do in the manga).
It isn’t that I didn’t or don’t love the original anime, because I do, and I love many of the ways in which it expands on the manga; for one, the anime, I think, does a better job of showing the developing friendships between the girls. But I’d still like a more faithful adaptation of the manga, you know?
i would watch this every minute of every day of my life
seriously a Sailor Moon higher production values and more faithfulness to the manga is all i want for Christmas
oh god me too
“Sailor Moon: Sisterhood” made me have a tiny fangasm aaaah it would be so great so great I waaaant it.
A remake would mean Haruka and Michiru would prolly be able to kiss on screen which would mean the world to me. As would the Usagi/Haruka kiss being animated. WANT IT.
This sounded amazing and then I thought about girls kissing and then I thought about a Sailormoon anime where a post-Utena-Movie Ikuhara was allowed to do whatever he wanted and I just
oh god
that would be the worst best thing
